Sustainable Living Through Backyard Hens

Join Us!

Do you live in Fox Lake, IL or parts of unincorporated Spring Grove, IL that fall under Fox Lake’s ordinance jurisdiction?

With the financial and economic gloom and doom heading our way, wouldn’t it be nice to know that your pets are providing vitamin- and protein-rich food for you as you provide scraps and local food sources to them? It’s the ultimate symbiotic relationship…and it’s been going on for millennia (until the last 40 years or so, that is).

We need your help to build a strong case for bringing backyard hens back to this area of Lake County. If people in New York City and other urban centers can manage to find a place for a few hens on the property of people and neighbors who want them, then there’s simply no practical reason we shouldn’t be allowed to keep them in suburban/rural Lake County if the right expectations are written into a revision of the ordinance.
